Susan Calman:
The Comedy of Country

“I’d rather have a bottle in front of me, than have to have a frontal lobotomy”

Susan Calman is an actor, comedian, presenter and lifelong country music fan. Who better to go through the BBC Radio 2 record library to find the some of the best country music from the last fifty years?

This programme isn’t pointing and laughing at the funny hicks; this show comes from a place of love and devotion, a true appreciation of the genre.

Featuring some of the biggest country music stars, including Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash, Susan introduces the audience to music that is not only well written, it is funny too.

Some songs use comedy to smuggle emotion or political messages to the masses, and some are just darn tooting comedic and out to entertain.

The show is first aired on BBC Radio 2 Country on Thursday 9th March, and is repeated on Saturday 11th March.
