How Bossman Jay Lost His Ears
The Radio Superstar who became deaf
Jay Crawford has worked in Scottish radio for almost forty years, he was one of the voices that launched Radio Forth, he gave birth to Scot FM and led from the front as Real Radio became the dominant force in the central belt. From behind a microphone and subsequently his Programme Controller’s desk, Jay Crawford was Scottish radio.
This documentary tells the tragic story of how this all came to a sudden end. After suffering from a potentially life threatening blood clot Jay lost all hearing in one ear and is plagued with relentless tinnitus in the other. He cannot return to work, he can’t enjoy the music that he so loves, he can’t even walk into a busy room without enduring the piercing ringing in his ears.
Jay and his wife Dawn tell his very personal story in their own words, with contributions from musicians Sharleen Spiteri, Craig and Charlie Reid, Fish and featuring archive audio from Jay’s long and varied career.
